Debra Jeanettea Provens Clay, 66, of Hollywood, Alabama was born to the late Ernest Hubert Provens and Clinese Sally Jane Tucker on January 6, 1953. She completed her earthly journey and transitioned peacefully to her eternal rest in her sleep early Saturday March 16, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Clinese, husband-Charles William Clay, sister-Annie Pearl Dunn, brothers-Paul Provens, Charles Provens, Bobby Provens, Ernest Provens and step-daughter Rena Clay. She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a lifetime member. She graduated from Scottsboro High School and continued her education at JF Drake State Technical College in Huntsville, AL studying Cosmetology. She later accepted a job at Jackson County Hospital (Highlands Medical Center) where she worked in Environmental Services, retiring after 41 years of service as Supervisor. She was dedicated to her family, her church and her job. Her focus was to always “KEEP THE PEACE” and to seek Jesus’ guidance along the way. She raised her children in church and as many other family members and friends that she could get to come to church with her along the way. She worked in the church in many positions including usher, choir member, kitchen committee, trustee, secretary, treasurer, and as a Mother of the church. She leaves to cherish sweet memories of her one son-William Provens and one daughter-Cheryl Provens Cummings of Hollywood, Alabama and Rebecca Steger of Decatur, Alabama. Eleven grandchildren-Kacey Christian, Timothy Dixson, Alexis Provens, Tucker Provens, DJ Provens, Eilaun Cummings, Charleigh Provens, Everleigh Provens, Shaunte McCamey, Nikki Clay, and Darian Clay. Three sisters- Norma Miracle of Scottsboro, Alabama, Beulah Provens Dillard of Scottsboro, Alabama, and Alice Gilbert (Henry) of Athens, Alabama. Five great-grandchildren, 4 aunts and 1 uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends and very special extended family. Debra’s life was focused on reaching Heaven’s Gates and taking as many with her that want to go. When her earthly building began to lean, and it was time for her soul to move, the Lord peacefully transitioned her to her building not made by man’s hands to be eternally whole.
