Helen Machen Prestwood went to heaven August 28, 2019, She is survived by her daughter Joy Prestwood Belcher (Bob)special granddaughter, Jamie Sue Leming Waldrop 3 great grandsons, Trey, Jake and Levi, a step daughter Barbara Prestwood King, a daughter by choice, Sonia Long daughter, Summer Carter Loughridge and family. She was proceeded in death by James A Prestwood, her Son, John Mark Prestwood her Dad, E.D. Machen Jr. and her Mother, Ruby Matthews Machen. Helen spent most of her life in Chattanooga TN. Attended Highland Park Grammer School, Eastside Junior High and graduated from Central High School in 1944. Helen attended Highland Park Baptist Church at the age of 9 and was a faithful member for over 40 years. Led to Christ by Sunday school teacher Mrs. Garland Cofield and baptized by Dr. Lee Roberson. During WWII Helen worked at American Lava Corp. sawing radio insulators for airplanes. After the war she worked 16 years at SCT Co. in Personnel, where she had the opportunity to attend Clemson University as one of the first female students in which she received Secretarial Certification. Later she was Attorney Charles L Claunch's legal secretary. Helen moved from LaFayette GA, where she worked at Chattanooga Coin to Hollywood AL (her birth place) in 1995. She worked in Scottsboro AL at Jackson Co EDA. She later moved to Lanett AL to be near her daughter, granddaughter and great grandsons. She worked at Valley Sportsplex, Lanett Sports Center and Jane Farrar Senior Center until she was 85. Helen was born happy and had a great love for people and was always smiling. The family will receive friends on Saturday August 31, 2019 from 1 PM until 2 PM at the Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro, Alabama. Graveside service for Helen Machen Prestwood will follow immediately after visitation at 2 PM with burial into Cedar Hill Cemetery - Scottsboro, AL., with Bro. Bud Martenn officiating.
