James William "Jim" Roote, 80 of Stevenson, AL, was born on March 5, 1938 and died at home with his family on June 1, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Catherine Jones Roote. Jim is preceded in death by his parent Read Obituary
I was also privileged to work with Jim Roote at Texas Instruments on the ASC program. He went to Huntsville, Alabama in early 1974 after I completed my assignment there and was involved in further performance enhancement of the customer's vector computer central processor. A fine engineer who I will always remember.

I was saddened today to learn of Jim's passing. Jim was a valuable member of a a team of engineers that I was privileged to be associated with during the development of the TI ASC, a supercomputer built during the 1970's that helped pave the way for many important developments in computer architecture.
Jim was a fine engineer who was much appreciated by all for his quiet spirit and the excellent and thorough way that he went about his work.
Jim now rests in peace, no longer a prisoner of the diseases of this life.

Jim Roote was a fine man and his family and mine share a long and rich heritage, since my grandfather, Israel Pickens Russell, Jr. and Mary Catherine Roote’s grandmother, Mrs. Katy Alston Legg, grew up together at The Cedars like siblings. They were all raised together by my great-grandparents, Martha McCullough Russell and IP Russell, Sr. and her great-grandmother, Lizzie Alston, who was a widowed school teacher and music teacher at The Emma Alston College in Stevenson. Their family relationship was as siblings. So sorry to hear of his death. He will be missed by all who knew him.
