Alvin Clayton Cagle's Obituary
Alvin” Clayton Cagle, age 97, joined his heavenly Father on May 20, 2025,
while at Alexian Skilled Nursing in Signal Mountain, Tennessee. He and his
late wife, Lena Smith Cagle, spent 67 years together in Bridgeport,
Alabama, enjoying their family and faithfully serving the Bridgeport United
Methodist Church, the local schools, and their friends and community. Alvin
is survived by daughters Penny (Arlin) Grant and Beth Cagle (Scott Pace);
grandson Clay (Amanda) Sanders; great-grandchildren Lyla, Jackson, and
Calvin Sanders.
He was born on October 17, 1927, in Richard City, Tennessee, to the late
Will and Velma Cagle. He was also proceeded in death by siblings John
William, Joe, Hoyle, Mable, and Nona.
Alvin is a veteran of the United States Navy. He dedicated 36 years to TVA
working swing shifts at the Widows Creek Power Plant in Stevenson,
Alabama.
Alvin was an amazing gardener, carpenter, and handyman, and he loved
sharing the fruits of his talents. He believed in resting on Sundays. He
always said yes to a good feed and enjoyed his breakfast or afternoon bull
sessions with his buddies. He was an all-star bleacher granddad who knew
everyone on the @eld and in the stands by the end of any season. In fact, he
never met a stranger and was not afraid to tell you what you ought to do:
“Put God @rst in your life and your family a very, very close second. Live one
day at a time. Don’t worry about something you can’t do anything about.
Health is wealth. Treat others as you would like to be treated. If it could be
worse, you are ahead of the game” (his all-time favorite). Simply put, he was
a good man.
It is with deep gratitude that the family thanks the angels of Alexian and
Hearth Hospice for their support during his @nal years. Per his request,
there will be no visitation or service. Gifts in Alvin’s memory may be given
to the Lena Cagle Library, 401 N Alabama Ave., Bridgeport, AL 35740
