Alvin Matthews was a man I am proud to have called a friend. He was a good person, good husband and father and his service to our country was of the highest level. We will miss him, but whereever we gather he will be there. His friendship will make each of us better. We send our love and deepest sympathies for Janet and the Matthews family.
I am still feeliung the loss of "Sarge" after finding out last week that he had passed.
Janet, Linda and I send our heartfelt condolences to you and the rest of the family during this most sad time.
I first met you and "Sarge" at the VSPA Reunion in Valdosta, Georgia. I was on the patio area when I first shook his hand..I liked him from the very first minute. At the supsequent reunions in Vegas and the last one in Washington, D.C., I made it a point to seek him out and give him a big hug...shake his hand and talk to him...He was a great guy.
I pray that you will be alright and know that he is on guard with "Monk" and the others..that have gone on before us.

Mere words cannot describe the heartfelt sorrow I feel for the loss of this fine gentleman. Sarge, I know your joy of being a proud Warrior and member of the VSPA; the love that you have for your fellow man, can never be be matched by anyone. Your friendship was so inspiring that it lit up the room when you walked in. I will greatly miss you. So long Sarge, may you Rest In Peace.

To Janet and the family of Al "Sarge" Matthews...my most heartfelt condolences to you all. As humans, we are deeply saddened when we lose a loved one, and Al was one of those people who impacted everyone and will be missed by so very many. I knew him and Janet through the VSPA, and my heart is unbearably heavy as I write this final farewell to Sarge. Although we will mourn here on earth, I'm sure Heaven's angels are singing with joy to have Al home once more. Rest in peace, my friend. Erlyce
