Ms. Amelia Kay Edgeman's Obituary
Ms. Amelia Kay Edgeman, 71, passed away on 8 January in her Scottsboro, Alabama, home due to complications from congestive heart failure. Amelia was born in Ringgold, Georgia, in 1948 to Ruth and Sanford “Bill” Edgeman. She graduated from Ringgold High School in 1966 and worked briefly in the fashion industry in the Chattanooga, Tennessee, area. In the mid-1970s, she moved to Illinois, before settling in Scottsboro in the early 1980s to raise a family.
Known for her wry wit, Amelia was a bibliophile with a particular love for stories of mysteries and intrigue who also enjoyed Alabama Crimson Tide football and her treasured pets. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, she proudly raised Terrier puppies for sale when she lived at Flat Rock, Alabama. Her greatest joy in life, however, came as a deeply caring and devoted mother whose compassion and nurturing ensured the best childhood for her two sons.
Amelia was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Teems of Chattanooga and is survived by elder sisters Rebecca McGee of Nashville, Tennessee and Gwen Childers of Chattanooga, and brother-in-law Gilbert Childers of Chattanooga. Amelia is also survived by her son Dr. Patrick Tapia and his wife Stephanie Tapia of Birmingham, Alabama, and David Tapia and Lytle Warren of Arlington, Virginia. Amelia rejoiced over the precious time she was able to share with her one-year old grandson, Max Tapia of Arlington. Amelia is also survived by niece Kim Stephens and nephews Kent Stephens--both of the Chattanooga area--and Dr. Matt McGee of Franklin, Tennessee. She is also survived by her beloved dogs Gracie and Cookie.
Our beautiful sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother will be missed, yet the memories of good times past will not fade. In lieu of flowers, the family asks regards be made as memorial donations to the Humane Society.
