Barbara Jane Goforth Carr's Obituary
Barbara Jane Goforth Carr, 86, of Flat Rock, Alabama, passed away on June 22, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Rosalie, Alabama on January 24,1937, Barbara was a 1955 graduate of Pisgah High School. She was an alumni of Northeast Alabama State Community College and taught for seven years at Flat Rock Elementary School. She was retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority at Bellefonte and Widows Creek where she worked as a secretary for 20 years. Barbara was an active and much loved volunteer of the Flat Rock Community Center and Food Bank, and a longtime member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. She was a gifted cook, baker, and seamstress, and loved crocheting baby blankets for expectant mothers in the family and community. She was an avid gardener with beautiful flowers around her home and garden every spring and summer. She was well known for her beautiful voice and she loved to sing.
Barbara's greatest joy was her family and friends who she loved faithfully and fiercely all of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Willie Mae Goforth, and her son, Douglas Cordell.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Reverend Dan Carr, her sister, Georgia Hampton (Phil); children, Joy Cofield (Jim), David Carr (Sahee), Marty Carr (Denise), and Anthony Carr (Corinne). Grandchildren, Justin Cofield (Christina), Ashley Cofield (Melanie Silva), Daniel Carr (Jette), Melody Fox (Germaine), Abigail Scheibner (Nate), Andrew Christopher (Alyssa), and Austin Carr.
Several cherished great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM CST at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, Alabama followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM CST in the chapel. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Flat Rock.
