Barrion Glenn "B.G." Purdy, 84 of Stevenson, Alabama died May 12, 2010 at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.
Barrion was the son of the late George Arthur "Red" and Gertrude Viola Gamble Purdy born May 7, 1926 in Stevenson, Alabama. He was a corporal in the U. S. Army during WWII. Mr. Purdy worked as an Agent-Operator for Norfolk,Southern, and CSX Railroads. He was the last Agent-Operator for the Stevenson Depot and also the last Agent-Operator for the Bridgeport Depot. B.G. was the first pilot to fly solo out of the Stevenson-Bridgeport Airport. He was past president of the Bridgeport Lions Club and a member of First Baptist Church in Bridgeport.
Besides his parents, Barrion was preceded in death by his sisters: Kathleen Rankin, Barbara Hill and Georgia Marie Bellomy and brother Boyd Purdy.
He is survived by Ernesteene Roberts of Stevenson, AL; children: Renee Purdy of East Ridge, TN, Karen Purdy of Dallas, TX, Barrion L. Purdy of Bridgeport, AL and Phillip Roberts of Huntsville, AL; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; sister Nancy Tanner of Bridgeport; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends Friday, 5-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral will be Saturday, May 15, at 2 PM CDT at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, AL officiated by Rev. Jim Bernard and Rev. Larry Glass. Military honors and interment will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Bridgeport. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
