Bettie Fay Smoot Rudder, 84 of Stevenson, AL, died March 23, 2015. Bettie was the daughter of the late Eddie Clifton and Gussie Elizabeth Joyce Long Smoot born January 17, 1931 in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama. She had worked as a clothing manufacturing seamstress and had worked at the local hospital. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Stevenson.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Wayne Grider Rudder; sisters Patricia and Louise Smoot.
She is survived by her children: Joyce (Ernest "Pete) Steele, Gary (Jane) Rudder,Sr., Reid Rudder, Sr., Debra (Wayne) Carlisle; grandchildren: Jen (Brad) Durham, Thomas (Holly) Hicks, Stephanie (Alan) Mantooth, Joy Rudder, Reid (Jennifer) Rudder, Jr., John Hicks, Gary (Chrissy) Rudder, Jr., Heath (Jacqueline) Steele; 12 Great-Grandchildren; brothers Harold Smoot and Joe Smoot; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Wednesday 5-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 26, at 11 AM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Brandon Evans. Interment will be in Stevenson City Cemetery. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
