Beatrice Josephine “Betty Jo” Holdcraft
(August 1, 1937 – July 6, 2021)
Arab, Alabama - Ms. Betty Jo Holdcraft, 83, passed away Tuesday July 6, 2021 at the Marshall Medical Center North Hospital in Guntersville, Alabama. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 1, 1937. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Postel Smith; mother, Marjorie Della Smith; brothers William Edward “Bill Ed” Smith, David Robert “Bobby” Smith and survived by her sister, Sandra Kay Metcalf.
Betty Jo was a lifetime member of the Stevenson First United Methodist Church and fully participated in the choir, women’s bible study, and Sunday school teacher. She was a graduate of Stevenson High School in 1957 and a graduate of Northeast Community College with an associate in Associate in Applied Science in 1981. She was an avid community supporter and always involved in community events, high school booster clubs, the Stevenson Senior Center, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked as a federal civil servant for many years across the United States and overseas. She retired from the Department of Defense as a financial comptroller for the Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in 1991.
She is preceded in death by her sons William Gary Russell and Jimmy Lee Holdcraft; daughters Sherrie Lynn Sutton and Jackie Lynn (Farrell) Roberts. Survived by her sons Larry Woodrow Russell, Stevenson, AL, Jerry Russell, Stevenson, AL and John (Zona) Holdcraft, Arab, AL; daughters, Terrie J. Russell, Arab, AL and Jenny Holdcraft Kelly, Jasper, TN; grandchildren Jennifer Saunders, William Eric (Rose) Russell, Christopher Allen (Sheena) Russell, Michael and Sarah Russell, Tonia (Aaron) Blevins, Kandi (Oliver) Nichols, Alexis (Ted) Smart, Corrie, Casey, Dakota and Dallas Holdcraft, Will (Angela) Roberts, Brook Mullinax, Cruz Hall, Tabetha Franklin, Trey (Hailie) Holdcraft, Alyssa Holdcraft, Brittany Holdcraft, Kayla Terry, and Austin Holdcraft; several great grandchildren, and loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation with family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Friday, 9 July at Rudders Funeral Home in Stevenson, Alabama with a graveside service at Stevenson Cemetery at 12:00 PM. with Pastor Danny Lee officiating.
