Betty Mae Walker Whitcher, 89 of Long Island, AL, died January 22, 2017 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. Betty was the daughter of the late Willie Lee "Bill" and Ida Madge King Walker, born April 6, 1927 in Alabama. She was a graduate and Salutatorian of Bridgeport High School Class of 1945. Betty was a member of God's Church, baptized in the Church of Christ and later attended the Baptist Church . She considered her greatest accomplishment was being a farmer's wife and a loving mother. She retired from Pittsburg Knitting Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband Chalmers L. "Bud" Whitcher.
Survivors include her daughters: Christine (Jesse E.) Pressley of Long Island, AL, Willene (Jim) Woods of Tampa, FL; grandchildren: Christine (Michael) Armstrong of Tampa, FL, Mike (Juanita) Woods of Augusta, GA; 5 great-grandchildren: Claire, Abby, and Ella Armstrong, Jessie and Josh Woods; sisters: Wilma Wright and Ella Jane Locke both of South Pittsburg, TN.
Visitation will be Friday 4-9 PM at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 28, at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Interment will be in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood, AL. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
