Charles Russell Mason, 98 of Bridgeport, Alabama, died August 16, 2013 at his home. Charles was the son of the late Charles Anderson and Sarah Francis Alverson Mason born August 13, 1915 in Bridgeport, Alabama. He was a retired foundry iron worker. Mr. Mason was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Chattanooga Ironworkers Union and 50-Year Member of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Veava Lucille Helton Mason; siblings: Hugh Mason, Lillie McClain, Mary Cookston, Wilma Hartline, Frances Smith; step-mother Edna Barnes Moore Mason;step-brothers: Carl and Raymond Moore.
Survivors include his children: Wanda Willis of Bridgeport, AL, James (Faye) Mason of Hopkinsville, KY, Charles "Buddy" (Anna) Mason of Nashville, TN, Hugh Nelson (Sonja) Mason of Old Hickory, TN; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, 5-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Sunday, August 18, at 3 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in the Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alacare Hospice or Harmony Grove Baptist Church. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
