David Joseph Callahan, Jr., 83 of Hollywood, AL, died January 15, 2011 at Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, TN. David was the son of the late David Joseph and Inez Thompson Callahan, Sr. born October 22, 1927 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, owner of Callahan Hardward Store, Fire Chief of Clinton, Mississippi and was Past President of the National Association of Fire Chiefs.
Besides his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife Jane Elizabeth Davis Callahan.
He is survived by 48 direct descendents including his children: Robert Michael (Deborah) Callahan of Birmingham, AL, Patrica Jane Callahan of Hendersonville, TN, Kathleen "Kathy" (Randall "Randy") Smith of Bridgeport, AL, Maureen (Sammy) Long of Brandon, MS, Bonnie (John) Parker of Birmingham, AL; 19 Grandchildren; 24 Great-Grandchildren; brother Hadden (Karen) Smith of Birmingham, AL; sister Bettye (David) Smith Neal of GA; extended family of over 100 fire fighters, boy scouts, and kids he taught to water ski.
Visitation will be Sunday, 4:30 - 7 PM CT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Monday, January 17, at 2 PM CT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Bro. Danny Rader. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Cares School, Mississippi Children's Home Services, 402 Wesley Ave. Jackson, MS 39215 to help emotionally challenged children.
