"Doug" Payne
July 16, 1957 ~ February 17, 2009
Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Charles Douglas "Doug" Payne, 51 of Murfreesboro, TN was called home to our Heavenly Father February 17, 2009 5:40am at Alive Hospice at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. He had suffered from a prolonged battle with cancer.
Known as 'Doug' to family and friends, he was beloved by all who knew him. Their lives were enriched by his unselfish friendship and everyone smiled when they thought of or mentioned his name.
He was raised in Huntsville, Ala. and was a graduate of the 1975 class of Grissom H.S. He went on to graduate with a degree in Accounting from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tn. He was a resident of the Nashville area the remainder of his days. Doug worked at ProDiesel LLC where he was the Chief Financial Officer.
A life-long member of the Church of Christ, he was baptized into our Lord and Savior on August 1, 1971 at the Doran's Cove congregation and was a member of the Franklin Road congregation at his passing.
Doug had a prodigious memory and attention to detail that amazed all who witnessed it. An accomplished basketball player, he played in a Nashville area industrial league for 19 years. It was estimated by family and friends that he played in over 900 games during that period. He loved Life, his dog 'Bo' and most of all had a deep, abiding affection for the Crimson Tide Of Alabama. Nothing made him happier than to be in Tuscaloosa on a crisp, fall gameday afternoon, tailgating with family and friends.
Though sorely missed by all, we are secure in the knowledge that he now belongs to the Angels and is wrapped in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.
He was preceded in Death by his Mother
Barbara Ann Raulston Payne, cousin and best friend Eddy Lee Crownover, Grandparents Ed and Kate Raulston of Bridgeport, Ala and Fred and Bertie Damron of Elora, Tn.
He is survived by his Father James R. Payne of Huntsville, Ala., special cousins and caregivers Joseph M. Crownover, Kathy Keough, Sandra Pippenger, Aunt Shirley R. Crownover and spouse M.C. Crownover, Uncle Edward P. Raulston and spouse Lucille Raulston, Herbert H. Raulston and spouse Ernestine, numerous cousins, a legion of friends and a dog named 'Bo.'
