Edith Mae Vinson Matthews, 78 life-long resident of Stevenson, AL died August 9, 2008 at her home. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after working 32 years as postal clerk in Stevenson. She was an Adult Sunday School Teacher at Helton Memorial Baptist Church. Edith was a graduate of Stevenson High School and a Chattanooga TN College.
Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Matthews, Jr.; son Alan B. Matthews; parents William Hershal "Bud" and Clara Edith Darwin Vinson; brother Billy Vinson; great-nephew Russell Ricketts.
She is survived by son Stan (Debra) Matthews; grandsons Chris and Taylor Matthews; granddaughter Ashley M. (B.J.) Chesser; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; sister Ora V. (Norman) Ricketts; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Sunday, 2-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral will be Monday, August 11, at 3 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by REv. Jerry Roberts and Rev. Pete Hess. Interment will be at Stevenson City Cemetery.
