Ella Crownover Gonce, 96 of Stevenson, AL, died August 13, 2011 at Cumberland Health and Rehabilitation in Bridgeport, AL. Ella was the daughter of the late James Lee and Anne Beene Crownover born December 12, 1914 in Anderson, TN. Besides her parents, Ella was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Lowry Wilson "Son" Gonce, Jr; siblings: Martha Lee Crownover Garner, James Matthew, George William and Maurice Cecil Crownover.
Survivors include: son Fred Wilson (Charlotte) Gonce of Anderson, TX, Mary Nell Gonce-King of Florence, AL; grandchildren: Brad (Rachel) Gonce of Centerville, TX, Tammye (Lance) Anderson of Anderson, TX; step-granddaughter Emily King Rodgers of Killen, AL;great grandson Jevin Gonce of Centerville, TX; step-great-grandchildren: Neal Sledge of Charlotte, NC, Lillie Sledge of Auburn, AL; brothers John H. Crownover of Tiftonia, TN, Joe Bill Crownover of Hixson, TN; a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Gonce was a graduate of Franklin Co. High School in TN. Ella was a charter member of Gonce Church of Christ, Chairman of the Ladies Committee of Jackson County Farm Bureau, Anderson Quilting Club, Past President of Stevenson Book Club and Jackson Co. Home Demonstration Club. She taught school in Alabama and Tennessee and taught cooking classes at Jackson County Alabama Extension Service for many years.
Visitation will be Monday, 5-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 16, at 11 AM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Lloyd Wallace and Miles Stutts followed by burial at Stevenson City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ella Gonce to Heritage Christian University in Florence, AL 35630. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
