Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Proverbs 31:28.
Ella Saylers Maxwell 86 of Flat Rock, AL passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Cumberland Health and Rehabilitation. Our Mother, the rock of our upbringing and a testimony to us of our Lord Jesus, was the wife of our late father, Raymond Price Maxwell. She loved the three of us and our father with all her heart; especially her five grandchildren and her three great-grandsons and great-granddaughter.
Ella, or Mamaw, was a homemaker, mother and retired from Avondale Mills as a spinner-winder. She loved her Lord and the Flat Rock Methodist Church, Alabama football, gardening, beautiful flowers and needlework. A gentle and generous soul, "Mamaw" always sought to do God's will. Her enduring legacy to all is one of unconditional love and total acceptance. Though her life has faded away, we will always carry within our hearts her love and the knowledge that we will rejoin her one day.
Mrs. Maxwell was preceded in death by her parents Elbert S. and Susie Young Salyers and 11 siblings.
Survivors include: children: Sandra (Darwin) Wright of Pisgah, AL, Faye Maxwell of Flat Rock, AL, Ray E. (Dana) Maxwell of Gadsden, AL; grandchildren: Brent Wright, Raymond Maxwell, Judd Maxwell, Mary Avery (Jordan) Wigley, Shannon (Matt) Sullivan; great-grandchildren: John Michael Wigley, Matthew James Wigley, Madelyn Kay Sullivan, Noah Maxwell Wigley, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Saturday 5-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral service will be Sunday, July 31, at 2 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Jerry Hastings. Interment will be at Stevenson City Cemetery. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
We would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the staff at Cumberland Health and Rehabilitation for their devoted care. Also, any church members, friends and neighbors who have shown our mother love and kindness through the years.
