Frances Devers Fellows' Obituary
Mary Frances Devers Fellows, 94, passed away June 2, 2016, in Oldsmar, FL.
Frances was born May 5, 1922, in Maxwell, AL, to her late parents, James Milton
Devers and Naomi Ruth Horton Devers. She, along with her parents and six
siblings (James, Horton, Robert, J. H. “Mutt”, Peggy Devers Livesay, and Kenneth)
moved to Scottsboro, AL in 1930 from the Paint Rock Valley area.
She is survived by two daughters: Sharon Fellows Larrison Stepniewski of
Oldsmar, FL and Anne Fellows Jacques of Jacksonville Beach, FL; one surviving
brother, Mutt (J.H.) Devers of Scottsboro, AL and five grandchildren; eight great
grandchildren and numerous loving relatives, including 27 nieces and nephews.
Frances graduated from Scottsboro High School in 1939 and attended Howard
College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, AL. On January 20, 1942, as
WWII was breaking out, she married Lt. George Riley Fellows, Jr., U.S. Army. She
was one of the first dependents to live in occupied Germany, arriving in 1946,
embarking on what became a lifetime of travel and adventure all over the world as
a military wife and later, as a retiree.
She retired from NASA in 1988, after spending 20 years in the Office of Personnel
Management, working with the astronauts and space launches at Kennedy Space
Center, FL.
A Memorial Service will be held at Rudder Funeral Home, 716 South Broad Street,
Scottsboro, Alabama, on Saturday, June 25, at 10:00 AM, followed by a brief
graveside service at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
