Francis Augustus "Buddy" Newton, 80 of Bridgeport, AL,passed away peacefully Thursday, April 22, 2010, at his home. He was the son of the late James Calvin and Bertha Metcalf Newton born July 30, 1929 at Bridgeport, Alabama. He grew up in the Bridgeport area, graduating from Bridgeport High School Class of 1947. He worked at the U.S. Stove Foundry and railroad before having an over 30 year-career as an electrician at the DuPont Chattanooga Plant. Buddy served two years with the US Marine Corps being deployed to Camp Lejune, Japan and California. After retirement he permanently moved to Doran's Cove and worked the family farm which he personally restored. He was a member of the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where he shared his love and extensive knowledge of the Bible with his fellow Christians. Buddy was also a member of the Cattlemen Association.
Mr. Newton is survived by his wife, Cynthia Elizabeth Catron Newton, whom he was married to for almost 60 years, a brother John "Bill" Newton of Bridgeport and sister Jane Blevins of Chattanooga. He and Cynthia have two children Garry Dean Newton of Red Bank, TN and Carla Newton Feeney of Cordova, TN married to Thomas Edward "Tad" Feeney. Additionally, he has two grandsons Brian Newton and Andrew Newton as well as three great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials to be sent to Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church at P. O. Box 73, Bridgeport, AL 35740
Visitation will be Saturday 4-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral will be Sunday, April 25, at 2 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Bro. Josh Myers. Interment will be at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
