George Rudder "Corky" Allison, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, January 29, at 3:00 p.m. at the Somerby Independent Living Center in Hoover, Alabama. Family members were with him at the time of his passing.
Corky Allison was born on November 13, 1927 in Stevenson, Alabama, the second son of George Rudder Allison, Sr. and Effie Mae Davis Allison. He graduated from Stevenson High School in 1945, promptly enlisted in the army, and served for two years in Japan. Upon discharging from the army, he attended Auburn University and graduated in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Animal Husbandry. In June of 1951, he married the former Betty Jo Mattox of Stevenson and they were married for 62 years. They had four sons: Michael, Bob, Ed, Brad, and Tim.
Corky's working career was spent primarily in sales for agricultural companies, most notably for Elanco Products, a division of Eli Lilly. He started work with Elanco in 1960, living in Springdale, AR, Indianapolis, IN, and Memphis, TN. While in Memphis, he was Elanco's regional sales manager for the entire southeast United States.
Corky was a devout man and served as an elder and deacon in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Stevenson, AL, Whitehaven Presbyterian of Memphis, First Evangelical Church of Memphis, and in his final years, was a member of Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Effie Allison, his brother Edwin Davis Allison, and a son Michael Joe Allison. He is survived by his wife Betty Jo of Birmingham; three sons: Bob Allison of Herrin, Il, Brad Allison of Birmingham, Tim Allison of Starkville, MS, and their wives: Crystal Allison, Wendy Allison and Lydia Allison. He is survived by nine grandchildren: Lt. Robert Seth Allison stationed in GA, Sarah Kathryn Allison of Carbondale, IL, Annika Ainsley Allison of Herrin, IL, Matthew Rudder Allison of Philadelphia, PA, Meredith Miller Allison of Atlanta, GA, Kathryn Davis Allison of Birmingham, David Drew Allison of Atlanta, Ann Elizabeth Allison of Starkville, MS and Mary Margaret Allison of Starkville.
The funeral service was held on Friday, February 1, 10:00 A.M. at Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church and graveside service was held the same day at 3:00 P.M. at the Stevenson City Cemetery in Stevenson, AL Donations will be accepted for the Missions Fund of the Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church. 4660 Caldwell Mill Road, Birmingham, AL 35243 The family was assisted by Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL.
