Horace Gurney Smith, 80 of Bridgeport, Alabama, died August 2, 2013 at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro, AL. Gurney was the son of thelate Horace and Minnie Ida Osborne Smith born August 20, 1932 in Rossville, Georgia. He served in the United States Navy.
Gurney had worked at TVA Widows Creek, Raccoon Mt., Sequoia, and Bellefonte Power Plants.
Mr. Smith was a member of Roaches Cove Baptist Church and Iron Workers Local 704.
Besides his parents, Gurney was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Anita Coffman Smith; siblings: Vivian Mashburn, Betty Sparks, Paul Smith, Rowland Smith, Harold "Preacher" Smith
and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Rev. David (Annette) Smith of Pisgah, AL; granddaughters: Elisabeth (David) Hall of Rainsville, AL, Leah Smith of Pisgah; sisters: Carolyn Tanner and Judy Gass; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Sunday, 1-8 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Monday, August 5, at 1 PM CDT at Grace Baptist Church in South Pittsburg, TN officiated by Rev. Ronnie Case and Rev. Franklin Waldrop. Military Honors will be presented by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard at Cumberland View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to New Home Baptist Church, 3398 Co. Rd. 61, Pisgah, AL 35765.
