Howard Grider's Obituary
Howard Grider, 81, of Scottsboro, died Friday morning at his residence. After working for Word Motor Company for twenty-six years he worked as a funeral director for Scottsboro Funeral Home until his "retirement." He then worked until his death for Rudder Funeral Home as well as engaging in flea marketing. He lived to work and especially to serve families in their time of bereavement.
He was a Korean War Veteran having served as a member of Company B, 151st Combat Engineer Battalion. He was awarded the Valley Scouter Award by the Tennessee Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Randall's Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Dorothea Fanning Grider; son, Ralph Grider and his wife, Dianne, of Scottsboro; daughter, Sarah Jo Musick and her husband, Bruce, of Gadsden; grandsons, Clayton Grider (Kristin), Brett Grider, and Mark Musick and a granddaughter, Anna Musick brother, Charles Ray Grider of New Hope and two sisters, Lorene Grider and Martha Franks of Skyline.
He was preceded in death by his parents, "Cap" and Louie Grider; brothers Billy Jack Grider and Bobby Grider and a sister, Adena Roberts.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the Randall's Chapel United Methodist Church, with Dr. Terry Greer, Rev. Michael Carver, and Rev. Donna King officiating. The body will lie in state at the church two hours prior to the service with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening at Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro from 5:00 till 8:00-P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Randall's Chapel United Methodist Church.
The members of Company B will be Honorary Pallbearers.
