James Luchion Akins' Obituary
James Luchion Akins, JL, age 64 passed peacefully in his home, Sunday August 21st. He is preceded in death by his parents Jimmy and Evelyn Akins and his wife’s parents Mearl and Agnes Jordan. He will also be lovingly greeted by sweet siblings who passed early in life.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 34 years, Robin Akins, children Selina Pittman (DeRon), Celeste Patteson, and Jeremiah Akins, grandchildren Jillian Pittman, Emmitt and Avett Patteson, siblings Jimmy Ray (Kim), Dennis, Arthur (Sandy) Timmy (Barbara), and Tina, nieces and nephews David, Shelly, Jennifer, Josh, Cody, and J.D. to whom he provided the love of a father. As well as many great-nieces and nephews, friends, and loved ones who brought him immense joy.
When a person lives a life of value consistently, their character can be stated simply. J.L. adored his wife, loved his family, worked hard, and enjoyed Alabama football. He was quick to help, slow to anger, and easy to fill with pride. Being a good husband, dad, step-dad (which is a term of endearment, not distance, in this family), Paw-Paw, friend, and auto-parts salesmen were his greatest accomplishments.
The family has chosen to celebrate his life privately with a scattering of ashes, at a later date. Formality would not be fitting. In lieu of flowers and a service, at this time, we ask that you hug your loved ones and offer a stranger kindness, in his honor.
