James William Gregory, 85 of Bridgeport, AL, died May 6, 2011 at Parkridge East Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
James was the son of the late James Forrest and Stella Mae Smith Gregory born March 16, 1926 in Newport, TN. Mr. Elkins was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran having served on the USS Nashville March 1944--June 1946. He was retired from TVA Widows Creek Steam Plant as a Public Safety Officer. Mr. Gregory was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge and OES in Bridgeport.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Ola Mae Mathis Gregory; brother Herman Ardel Gregory and brother-in-law John T. Elkins.
Survivors include his sister Meda Jean Elkins; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: George and Wanda Samples and Dorotha Gregory.
Visitation will be Sunday and Monday 4-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 10, at 2 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood, AL.
