Alston Jones, 67 of Stevenson, AL, passed away July 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. James Alston was the son of the late Rev. James Thomas and Elizabeth Russell Legg Jones born May 13, 1945 in Stevenson, Alabama. He was a Stevenson High School Graduate Class of 1963, Graduate of Bethel College with a BA in History. Alston was a member of the Stevenson Volunteer Fire Department for nearly three decades, an Elder and Sunday School Teacher at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Stevenson and did volunteer missionary work. He had co-owned Jones-Light Furniture Store in Stevenson.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years Karen Jane Buckner Jones of Stevenson; step-children: Christopher (Terri) Anderson of Scottsboro, AL, Christin (Shannon) Anderson of Flat Rock, AL; grandchildren: Grace, Matthew, Emma, Megan and Brady Anderson; Alston's Girl Amanda Barringer; sister Mary Catherine (Jim) Roote of Stevenson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 7, at 2 PM CDT with a time of visitation beginning at 1 PM at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Stevenson officiated by Rev. Gary Tubb and Rev. Bob Watkins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Alston Jones to Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bethel College, Memphis Theological Seminary or the organization of your choice.
