James Lewis "Pig" Stewart, 76 of Stevenson, AL, passed away March 2, 2012 at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro, AL. James was the son of the late Homer and Mary Elizabeth Matthews Stewart, Sr. born August 12, 1935 in Stevenson, AL. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. "Pig" retired after working approximately 20 years for Mead Containerboard as a machine operator. He was a member of First Baptist Church and worked with Stevenson High School Band Boosters. He had worked with the Russell Stables race horses.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by an infant son; grandson Jacob Wade Atkins; and sister Sarah Catherine Stewart.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years Janice Marie Bradford Stewart; daughters: Amy (Cecil) Summers of Stevenson, AL, Julia (Wade) Atkins of Scottsboro, AL; grandchildren: Meagan and Matthew Rodgers, Olivia, Emily and Madison Atkins; siblings: Homer Lee (Mae) Stewart, Jr. of Hollywood, AL, Edward (Joyce) Stewart of Scottsboro, AL, Jean McCrary of Stevenson, AL; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Sunday, 2-5 PM CT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral service will be Monday, March 5, at 2 PM CT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Bro. Gene Voss. Interment will be at the Longacre Cemetery. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
