James Wayne Turner, 84, passed away, Saturday, December 21, 2024.
James was born in Chicago, IL on Friday, June 14th,1940. The family then moved to Tarrant City, AL when James was four (4) years old. A few years later they moved to Scottsboro, AL where James attended Scottsboro High School and played football. James was also very active in Boy Scouts of America Troop 122 earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1957. He graduated high school in 1958 and continued his studies at Auburn University graduating with a BS in Industrial Engineering. He served in the Army National Guard in Scottsboro from 1963 to 1967.
James was an extremely brilliant man and after a successful 20 year career in engineering, he went back to school to become an RN graduating the program with a perfect 4.0 GPA. His career as a nurse led him to Health South Hospital in Huntsville where he retired in 2012. James was also an excellent coach and always made time to coach little league football and baseball as his sons grew up. James was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, provider, patient teacher, and friend. He always had a bright smile, a big hug, and some huge laughs for everyone that came under his roof. Known as “Paw” later in life, he taught us love as well as devotion by example and that the richness of life is not measured in dollars spent but in moments shared with family and friends.
James is preceded in death by his mother, Vera “The Shot Lady” Turner and father, P.A. Turner.
James is survived by the Love of his Life, Rachel Ann (Higginbotham) Turner of Scottsboro, AL; his sons, Jim, John, and Jason, and his grandchildren; Trey, Tyler, Tori, Tate, Jackson, Ashley, Evan, and EJ.
