James Thomas (J.T.) Carroll, age 91, of Conyers, Georgia fell asleep in the Lord on July 21, 2013. Mr. Carroll lived most of his life in Stevenson,Alabama. He was a member of Stevenson Advent Chrisitan Church where he formerly served as an ordained deacon, Sunday School teacher, worship leader, and trustee. Mr. Carroll served in World War II as an Air Force pilot. He operated a small community grocery store, served as a mail carrier, and was the Stevenson postmaster for 25 years. He was an active community leader who had served on the airport board and was instrumental in the building of an airport in Stevenson. In addition, he served on the Housing Authority Board for over 40 years. Mr. Carroll was on the Board of Directors for the First Southern State Bank for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mrs. Evelyn Lyda Carroll of Conyers, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Carroll Franklin and Ted C. Franklin, Jr.; two granddaughters ; Jamie Franklin and Jennifer Ludewig; grandson-in-law, Matthew Ludewig; three great-grandchildren: Emma Barragan, Lucia Barragan, and Hayley Ludewig; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. William B. Carroll and Mrs. Verda Carroll; sister, Mrs. Ruby Cox; and four brothers: William, Hubert, Oscar and Edgar Carroll. There will be a private viewing at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson for family members of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll from 2:00 P.M. until 2:45 PM CDT preceding the public graveside service. A public graveside service for family and friends will be held at Stevenson City Cemetery on Wednesday, July 24, at 3:00 PM CDT. Services will be conducted by Rev. Brent Ross. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Community Fellowship at 4037 Bailey Circle in Loganville, GA 30052 or to Embracing Hospice at http://www.ahhospicefoundation.org/.
