Jerry Alton Roberts' Obituary
Jerry Alton Roberts, 87, of Stevenson, Alabama, passed peacefully from this life on November 23, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved more than anything.
Born on March 26, 1938, to Joda and Florence Roberts, Jerry grew up in Stevenson alongside his siblings Josephine, Elbert, Doran, and Mac Arthur. After graduating high school, he moved to New York to pursue his passion for training horses. During his time there, he was drafted into the United States Army and stationed in Germany, a place he often spoke of with great fondness and hoped to visit again someday.
Following his service, Jerry returned home to Stevenson, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn. They were married for 61 wonderful years and built a beautiful life rooted in faith, devotion, and family. Jerry was the cherished father of Greg (Renee) Roberts, Dennis (Terrie) Roberts, and Emily (Clay) Roach; beloved grandfather of Tiffany (Mason) Light, Logan Roberts, and Amy Roberts; and proud great-grandfather of Blakely and Bennett Light.
A man of deep faith, Jerry served as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Stevenson for 30 years, ministering with compassion, humility, and a genuine love for people. He was known for his quick wit and warm humor—always joking, always making those around him laugh, and bringing joy to every room he entered. After retiring he returned to another lifelong passion—farming—and spent the last 16 years doing what brought him peace and joy.
Jerry’s legacy is one of kindness, integrity, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and steadfast guidance will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
