John Thomas Elkins, 85 of Bridgeport, AL, entered into the gates of heaven on Wednesday, December 1, 2010. John was the son of the late Tommy and Martha Elizabeth "Bessie" Myers Elkins born July 21, 1925 in Calhoun, TN. He had worked over 40 years at South Pittsburg Knitting Mill and was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran.
Besides his parents, "J.T." was preceded in death by his sisters: Marchie E. Jones, Mae E. Grant, Myrtie E. Case, Helen E. Roberts brothers: Carl Elkins and James Oran Elkins.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Meda Jean Gregory Elkins; children John David Elkins of Bridgeport, AL, Shelia Jean Elkins Garner of Stevenson, AL; grandchildren: Amy Carol Garner (Daniel) Rainey, Timothy David Elkins, Sherry Lynn Elkins (Kevin) Short; great-grandchildren: Meghann Saxon, Kylub Saxon, Heather Short, Colby Elkins, Kirstin Elkins, Penelope Elkins, Keith Short, Kimmi Short, sister Ruth Elkins Ragan and other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, 5-9 PM CT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Friday, December 3, at 1 PM CT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Doyle Chamblee and Rev. Brian Guess. Military Honors and Interment will be at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood, AL. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
