John ""Hulie"" Bevel's Obituary
John William "Hulie" Bevel, age 79 of Bridgeport, AL, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010. Mr. Bevel retired from DuPont in Chattanooga after 39 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police and continued to serve by dedicating 25 years to the Army National Guard retiring as Master Sergeant. Active in his community, Mr. Bevel served several years as President of the Bridgeport Area Historical Association (BAHA), was elected Grand Marshall of the Bridgeport Parade in 2002 and was instrumental in the restoration of the Bridgeport Depot Museum and had been Secretary of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Inc. After retiring, he volunteered at North Jackson High School assisting with welding classes in the Agriculture Department. He was known throughout the area for his gorgeous muscadine vineyard and shared the harvest with family and friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bridgeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward P. and Laura Boldin Bevel; brothers Eugene and Robert "Bobby" Bevel and sisters Joyce and Kathleen Bevel.
Mr. Bevel is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Crane Bevel, son and daughter-in-law John Glen and Lanette Bevel, grandsons Corey Glenn and Christian William Bevel, granddaughter Cassidy Lanette Bevel and mother-in-law Lunda Crane. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law Odessa and George Werner of Bridgeport, Bessie Graham of Cookeville, TN, and Betty and Willard Watson of Jasper, TN and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 2 PM CST in the Rudder Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport, AL officiated by Rev. Jim Bernard. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Bridgeport. The family will receive friends 4-9 PM CST Friday and 12 PM CST till funeral time on Saturday at the Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
