Joseph Carter, 76 of Bridgeport, AL, died September 2, 2015 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. Joseph was the son of the late Samuel Robert and Ellen Elizabeth Cheek Carter born January 7, 1939 in South Pittsburg, TN. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Joe had worked in quarry maintenance with Penn-Dixie Cement Company for about 18 years. He was a member of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star.
Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by an infant daughter Judith Arlene Carter, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Gloria Dean Helton Carter; daughter Leila (Scott) Randolph; grandchildren: Brittany (Nick) Farhat, Courtney (Matt) McCrary, Alyson Randolph, Zachary Randolph and Abigail Randolph; expected great-grandchild arriving in February; siblings: John Carter, George Carter, Paul Carter and Norma Remonaco; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Friday, 4-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Saturday, September 5, at 2 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel. Masonic Rites and Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
