I have nothing loving memories of Aunt Carolyn. She was always a kind and caring soul and I have great memories of visiting with her both in Waycross and in Pembroke. My son, Christopher, also has fond memories of spending time with Aunt Carolyn. He was able to get to know her during her travels with my mom, her sister, Virgene; including a fun-filled visit to Disney World. We are so very sorry for your loss, Steven and Wayne and we are thinking of you.
I wanted to share with everyone.
Mom came to live with me on Feb 2, after Rev. Marci and I talked. After talking again to my mom we decided that the best thing was for her to come and live with me. I drove over that day and picked her up.
For the next month we had a "blast". It was a wonderful time. Mom seemed strong and alert, the whole time. Friends gave us a wheel chair, and other things to help me. She was able to actually move herself. It seemed to me that she was getting stronger as the days past. I'd fix her breakfast every morning. She really liked having grits and coffee and a piece of toast every morning. I'd peel and separate orange slices for her now and then. We had a great variety of other things too.
I got about 4 picture puzzles, and she would put the edge pieces together while I worked on the interior pieces. I found some old paper back books, and she really seemed to find those mentally engaging and read for hours.
We had two very warm days, and I was able to let her sit in the sunshine on my deck, and read for a few hours each time. I recall mom mentioning my back yard fire pit and said that when summertime came we would roast hot dogs there.
Some years ago I built (myself) a large canopy bed and that was her bedroom. It has glossy varished bed posts, with deep burgundy drapes all around it and black sheet with a softly lit surrounding lighting. I would put her to bed and tuck her in every night. Mom was never any burden. I really enjoyed the thanks that she always gave me.
Even on March 8th as I put her to bed, she was strong and alert. Sadly, I was awoken by her call at 5am, and immediately woke up and called back "Coming!!!". I could immediately tell something was wrong, and for about 5 to 10 minutes she was trying to speak to me and communicate, but I was not able to understand and new something was wrong. She definitely knew I was there, and her eyes were definitely looking up to me.
I called 911 at that point, and the parametics came out. But even before they arrived it was clear that things were rapidly progressing. I followed them to the hospital, and the doctors came out and began letting me know how serious things were. They tried many things, but it became clear that God was calling to her. He took her to be with him according to his infinite and divine will at approximately 11 am.
I will sorely miss her until we meet again. Nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done. Amen.
What a dear lady! What a peaceful presence and sweet spirit! Great is Aunt Carolyn's reward. She is loved and missed.
Aunt Carolyn was such a sweet and tender-hearted woman, just like her sister, Virgene (my grandmother). I remember watching the two of them pick with each other over stealing French fries! It made my sister and I giggle. 😂 Some things never change between sisters, I guess!
She was truly a wonderful woman of faith, and I look forward to seeing her again. ❤️
I am sorry to hear about the passing of Sister Sims. She and Brother Earl were two wonderful people. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and many friends she leaves behind. James Helton, Gateway Baptist Church, Rossville, Ga.
