Kathleen Horton Jenkins' Obituary
Mrs. Kathleen Horton Jenkins of Scottsboro, AL, at the age of 91, entered into her heavenly home on Sunday, July 30, 2017. She was surrounded by loving family and friends. Mrs. Jenkins was born on May 10, 1926 in Fackler, AL to the late Vula Mae and L.D. Horton. She graduated from George Washington High School in Scottsboro.
Mrs. Jenkins was united in matrimony to the late Richard Jenkins, Jr. on Sept 7, 1947, and to this union five sons were born. Kathleen accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of St. Elizabeth M.B. Church where she was a faithful member for many years. She was a devoted member of The Mothers Board, The Missionary Society (Treasurer), and faithfully attended Sunday school and Bible study. She was also a member of the Mud Creek North Alabama Association. She was very active until her recent decline in health. She loved to work cross word and word search puzzles. She also loved her flowers, especially when her Thrift bloomed in the spring. In her early years, she loved to crochet gifts for her family. She also loved gospel music and attended gospel singings when she was able.
Besides her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Ernestine Horton Ewing; and two brothers, L.W. and Edward Horton.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sons, Robert Lewis (Sharon) Jenkins of Hermitage, TN, James Anthony Jenkins, David Carl Jenkins, Larry Dejaun Jenkins all of Scottsboro, and Richard Wayne Jenkins of South Pittsburg, TN; one devoted special daughter, Joyce D. Jenkins of Scottsboro; brothers, David Horton of Scottsboro, Jimmie (Glenda) Horton of Montgomery, AL, and Gus (Addie Bell) Horton of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters, Mamie (Damon) Warfield and Lela Fay Ewing of Nashville, TN; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends; as well as special friends, Blanche Horton (sister-in-law), Jill Evans, Marie Doss, Jackie Tucker, Stella Benson, and Virginia Webb.
Visitation for Mrs. Jenkins is Friday, August 4, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro. The funeral service will be Saturday, August 5 at 12:00 pm at St. Elizabeth M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
