Mrs. Kimball McQueen Speers' Obituary
Kimball McQueen Speers was born August 17, 1957 to Lila McQueen and Vince
McQueen in Cincinnati, Ohio and later moved to the south around the age of four. She
departed this life and entered eternal rest on December 17, 2023 at Aspel Community
Church.
She was raised in Scottsboro,AL and graduated from Scottsboro High School in 1974 , then graduated from Alabama A&M University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education.
Kim was a librarian at Brownwood Elementary School in Scottsboro, AL and enjoyed
riding with her husband on his Harley. She was very instrumental in opening “The
Scottsboro Boys Museum and Cultural Center” and she was a published author.
Kim was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother.
Kim is survived in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. Gary Maurice Speers and Mother-in-
law Barbara Doyle.
Kim leaves to carry on her legacy through her three daughters Kristin Speers Benford
(Ronnie), Rebecca Speers, Stephanie Speers King (Walter). Her seven grandchildren,
Kimberlee, Juliet, Joshua, Priscilla, Wynonna, Sabrina and Ophelia. She leaves two
sisters Constance McQueen, Virginia McQueen Ellison, two brothers Randy McQueen,
Fitzgerald McQueen (Lynn) and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kim is
preceded in death by Lila McQueen (mother) and Vince McQueen (brother) and
Fitzgerald McQueen (nephew).
Visitation will be, Saturday, December 23rd, 2023 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (CT), at Scottsboro High School Gym,
25053 John T Reid Parkway,Scottsboro, AL 35768. Homegoing Celebration will follow, beginning at 12 noon, also held in the gym, and interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
