I will truly miss Lee and although many folks viewed us as basketball teammates for Coach Storey, Lee was always much more to me because he was one of my closest true friends. From the time we were in 1st grade together we had a bond that was strong. I can remember how he always supported me and genuinely wanted everyone around him to do well. I will never forget the day of my own father's funeral service that he had been at work and came by our home on Parton Heights. I still remember my mother (always the teacher) coming into my room where I was visiting relatives with tears in her eyes and saying, "Lee is here to see you." I went out to the street where his daughters were asleep in the car and the first words out of his mouth were, "you are one of my best friends, I am sorry I had to work today, and I am sorry about your father." Class, true class, but that was how Lee did things. The Class of BHS in 1981 was close knit and to see Connie, April, Kay, Wanda, Jolene, and Robert there today showed me how much respect we all still have for each other. Coach Storey, Kathy, and I have talked or texted this week how Lee was a leader in a special way. Although it was only for a short time to visit today, I extend my deepest sympathy to Ms. Lucille, Teresa, Sherry, Neal, William, and all of his family. Rest in peace my good friend, I will miss you but will have the fondest memoreis of our time together on the court, in the classroom, and most importantly just talking and visiting as the very best of friends.
