Lila Virginia Eakin Lewis, 90 of Flat Rock, AL passed away Feb. 12, 2010 at her home. The precious soul of our mother "Ma Lewis", grandmother, sister and friend is at rest with her Lord. She served her Lord, her family and friends well for a long time. She was one of the most loving, compassionate persons that has ever lived on this earth. We have lost a precious presence, but Heaven has gained a bright soul. Her loved ones are forever changed, but ultimately enriched from having had her guidance.
Lila was born Oct. 4, 1919 in Fackler, AL and now has graciously left us on Feb. 12, 2010. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church for 61 years, and has faithfully taught God's Word. She had been a Christian witness so many times.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Francis and Julia Emmaline Venable Eakin; her husband Howard Ledster Lewis; two sons: Bobby Ray Lewis and Howard Rayford "Buddy" Lewis; four half-brothers and six whole brothers and sisters: Arlie Eakin, Harvest Eakin, Harvey Eakin, Francis Eakin, Floyd Eakin, Bonnie Eakin Keller, R.C. Eakin, Mary Beatrice Eakin Bass, Juanita Faye Eakin Daniel; two great-grandchildren Jeramy Holcomb and Jacob Lewis.
She leaves to mourn her passing, five daughters and a daughter-in-law: Eloise and Rev. Ralph Long, Wanda and John Nelson, Brenda and John Young, Sharon and Jimmy Hurst, Lynette and Byron Samples, Donna Lewis; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters and one brother remain of her siblings: Annie Mae and Robert Lackey, Emma Rae and Ben McCrary, Debra Odessa and Lawrence E. Robinson, Nellie Keller, Terry and Diane Winkles Eakin and a multitude of extended family and friends.
The funeral service was held at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010 at 1 PM CST officiated by Bro. Ralph Long, Bro. Wayne McCrary and Bro. David Smith. Interment is at the Lewis Family Cemetery in Flat Rock, AL.
