Lonie Dee Adams, 81 of Stevenson, AL, died October 10, 2015 at his home. Lonie was the son of the late Lawrence and Bernice Privett Adams, born October 24, 1933 in Stevenson, AL. Lonie was a graduate of Stevenson High School Class of 1954. Lonie was a retired U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Adams served during the Korean Conflict and The Vietnam War. during his time of service, he received many letters of Appreciation and Commendation for his outstanding work. Mr. Adams also received numerous awards during his career in the Army, among those are: Medal of Honor, 2 Bronze Stars, German Labor Service, 2 Army Commendation Medals, Vietnam War Veteran Medal 1960-1975, Meritorious Service Medal, 2 Korean Defense Service, National Defense, Polish Labor Service, 5 Good Conduct Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary & Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon; just to name a few. Mr. Adams retired as a Master Sergeant E-8 on September 1, 1974 after 21 years of service. After retiring from the Army, he moved back to Stevenson with his wife Jewel McCrary Adams and four sons: Alan, Little Lonie, Mark and Bruce and went to work for TVA. In his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, Alabama football, and politics. He was an active member of Stevenson Senior Citizens and First Baptist Church in Stevenson and was greatly loved by his entire family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Frances Jewel McCrary Adams; son Lonie DeWaine Adams; granddaughter Frances Rae Adams; siblings: Ed Adams, Richard Adams and Catherine Kirk; daughter-in-law Brenda Adams. Survivors include his sons: Alan Adams of Tate, GA, Mark (Janey) Adams of Stevenson, AL, Bruce (Tammy Riddle) Adams of Ft. Payne, AL; daughter-in-law Cindy Dayton of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Marketta (Todd) Robinson, Carrie Adams, Tiffany Adams, Shane (Andra) Callahan, Shannan (Brandon) Pettit, Shandra (David) Shirley, Michelle (Jeffrey) Satterfield, Kirsty Helms; great-grandchildren: Austin Robinson, Adria Smith, Wade Britton, Lexi Gash, Samantha Robinson, Deyton and Deanna Callahan, Jozalyn Pettit, DJ, Shyanne and Daniel Shirley, Brittany, Brandon,Blake Satterfield, Mandy Gentle; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister Sue Adams; special friend Wanda Hamlin; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be Sunday, 4-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral service will be Monday, October 12, at 11 AM CDT at First Baptist Church in Stevenson officiated by Rev.
