Mary Johnson Claytor's Obituary
Mary Johnson Claytor, born March 27, 1920 in Hollywood, Alabama to the late Walter and Ruby Johnson, passed away at age 97 on March 10, 2018 at St. Martin in the Pines in Birmingham, AL.
Mary attended Auburn University, where she met and married her husband in 1942, Roy Frank, Sr. He was an officer in the US Army Air Corp, and later retired as a Colonel in the US Air Force. While he was serving in the military, Mary traveled along with him, living in Hawaii and several other states throughout the US, as well as in Thailand. Once Roy Frank retired, they moved back to Hollywood, where they owned/operated the Hollywood Crossroads Store. After 20 years of running the store, Mary retired from the store and kept up the family farm and rental properties. She also enjoyed caring for the many hummingbirds, deer, and other animals that visited her home.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Claytor, DVM; and son-in-law, John Terry Tucker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lorenzo and Ruby Matthews Johnson; husband, Col. Roy Frank Claytor, Sr., retired US Air Force; son, Roy Frank Claytor, Jr; and three sisters, Elizabeth Haas, Mazie Hereford, and Billie Puckett.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 14 from 4-6pm at Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 15 at 11am at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville. Condolences may be made at www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
