Melvin Mayes, Sr, 84 of Stevenson, AL, died March 21, 2012 at his home. Melvin was the son of the late Boss and Nancy White Mayes born May 6, 1928 in Princeton, AL. He worked as a farmhand for area farmers. He served in the Alabama National Guard and attended Stevenson Holiness Church.
Besides his parents, Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by his son Calvin Mayes; 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Elizabeth Ann Thompson Mayes; children: Melvin Mayes, Jr. of Bridgeport, AL, Billy Mayes of Stevenson, AL, Cathy (Bobby) Pace of Scottsboro, AL, Wayne (Barbara) Mayes of Bridgeport, AL, Jimmy (Linda) Mayes, Patty (Marvin) Barnes, Frankie Mayes all of Stevenson, AL; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Friday and Saturday 10 AM ~9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral service will be Sunday, March 25, at 2 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Bro. James Johnson and Bro. Junior Hinkles. Interment will be in the Price Cemetery in Hollywood, AL. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
