Miriam Frances Roney's Obituary
Miriam Frances Roney, 84 of Scottsboro, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014. Miriam was born and raised in Headland, AL and was the daughter of the late Daniel Walter Johnson and Zorah Dethalia Powell Johnson. She was married to the love of her life, Thomas Carroll Roney, of Dothan, for 65 years and he preceded her in death January 5, 2014. They moved to Scottsboro in 1967 with GTE.
Miriam was secretary at Brownwood Elementary School and retired after 25 years. Miriam was a committed wife, mother and grandmother, and was very active with Friends of the Family, her Sunday school class and First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Ms. Fredda Marsh, sons, Mike (JoLynn) Roney, and Kevin (Penny) Roney, 8 grandchildren: Tara Roney, Stephanie Roney, Kris (Kelly) Roney, Arin (Eva) Roney, Cody Roney, Caitlin Roney, Luke Robinson, Jake Griner and 7 great grandchildren, Harper, Sam Thomas, Caelon, Savannah, Michael, Thomas Brantley and John Luke.
Mrs. Roney is also preceded in death by her siblings: Lamb Johnson, Gladys (Bill) Lumpkin, Loma (Kate) Johnson, Burl (Mary) Johnson, Nadine (Robert) Redding, Kathleen (Dan) Boone, Elizabeth (Clarence) Brodgen, Daniel Walter, Jr. (Christine) Johnson, half sister Judy (Bill) Redding, and stepsister Jessie Mae Morning.
A celebration of life was held at the First Baptist Church in Scottsboro, officiated by Pastor Greg Hart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to a charity of choice or Celebrate Recovery at the First United Methodist Church.
