R.V. "Pete" Garner, 86 of Stevenson, Alabama, died November 5, 2016 at his home. R.V. was the son of the late Virgil Elijah and Susie Emeline Sharp Garner born March 25, 1930 in Fackler, AL. He was a Stevenson High School Graduate Class of '51. "Pete" had worked as a technician and supply room manager at Avondale Mills and Shaw Industries; as well as a tool grinder at Wheland Foundry in Chattanooga, TN and technician at Pittsburg Knitting Mill. He was a Deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by his siblings: Cordie McDonald, Vernie Talley, Elbert Garner, Richard Aubrey Garner, Lula Belle Shaud and Clyde Garner.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Gladys Sue Venable Garner; children: Ronald Wayne (Deborah) Garner of Fackler, Kathleen (Faron) McCulley of Hollywood, Sheila (Tommy) Whitaker of Gurley, Jimmy Don (Anitra) Garner of Grant, Sharon (Robbie) Hass of Stevenson; grandchildren: Jody Beth (G.T.) Miller, Amelia (J.D.) Shrader, Savannah Garner, Jacob and Emily Muir, Brittany and Jordan Garner; step-grandchildren: Whitney Thompson and Heath Hass, Nathan and Emily McBee; great-grandchildren: Anna Beth Miller, Aidan Bryant Shrader; step-great-grandchild Memphis Thompson; siblings: Lois Akin, Kenneth Edward Garner; honorary son Joey Guess; several special nurses and caregivers.
Visitation will be Monday, 11 AM - 8 PM CST at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, November 8, at 2 PM CST in the funeral home chapel officiated by Bro. Doyle Chamblee, Bro. David Crawford and Bro. Joey Guess. The Graveside Service will be officiated by Bro. Buster McCulley and Bro.
