Ralph E. Akin's Obituary
Ralph E. Akin, age 80 of Scottsboro, AL, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Crestwood Hospital from complications of ALS.
Born to the late Ed and Opal Akin on April 3, 1936 in Old Hickory, TN, Ralph graduated from Tennessee Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and continued his education to earn an MBA. He started his career at Vitro Lab in Groton, Connecticut and later transferred to Huntsville. From there he went with the Army Missile Command for the remainder of his career.
A resident of Scottsboro for 25 years, Ralph was an avid golfer, a member of Scottsboro Golf and Country Club, and a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Barbra; son, Andy Akin of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Debbie (Gary) Wilbanks of Houston, TX; brother, Harold (Patty) Akin of Murfreesboro, TN; 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Akin, and granddaughter, McCall Akin.
Visitation for Mr. Ralph Akin will be Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 11AM-1PM at Rudder Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Steve Screws officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church (1105 S.
