Ray Porter, 73 of Stevenson, Alabama, died September 30, 2009 at his residence. He had been in the Alabama National Guard, worked at U.S. Stove for 23 years and Salem and Shaw Industries Carpet Mills for about 20 years. Ray was of the Baptist Faith.
Earnest Ray Porter was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Franklin and Lillian Evett Porter; sons Ricky and Michael Porter; granddaughter Pamela Nicole Porter.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Doris Jean "Polly" Burton Porter; children: Sandy (Anthony) Ridley of Bridgeport, AL, Scotty (Cheryl) Porter of Stevenson; grandchildren: Michael (Sandy) Porter of Lafayette, GA, Michelle (Mitchell) Hill of Trenton, GA, Heather Smith of Athens, TN, Sean Porter of Stevenson, AL, Amber Porter of Florence, AL, Anthony Ridley, Jr. of Dayton, TN, Traci (Kim) Zahnke of Gray, TN; God-child Brian Burton; great-grandchildren: Clay Hardin of Athens, TN, Corey Ray Porter of Scottsboro, AL, Kolbi Hill of Trenton, GA, Kaden Porter of Trenton, GA, Maura Zahnke of Gray, TN, Aubrey Cobb of Gray, TN.; siblings: Gary (Charlotte) Porter of Dutton, AL, Bobby (Wanda) Porter of Geraldine, AL, Betty Miles and Savannah Kessler both of Hollywood, AL, Beatrice (Gene) Sewell of Dutton, a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday 5-9 PM CDT, Friday 10 AM-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 3, at 11 AM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Roy Venable and Rev. Jimmy Wayne Miles. Interment will be at Price Cemetery in Hollywood, Alabama.
