Raymond Clay's Obituary
Mr. Raymond Clay, age 77 of Scottsboro, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017. He was born April 1, 1940 to the late Harvey Hollis Clay and Josephine Noble Clay. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Woodville. He attended and graduated from George Washington Carver High in Scottsboro in 1959. He served his country by joining the United States Army from 1961 to 1971.
Raymond was a steel craftsman for Revere Aluminum for eighteen years at the Scottsboro Plant. He loved gardening, fishing, working in the yard and tinkering on cars until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Theoddes Clay, William Henry Clay, Tommie Clay, James Clay and H.G. Elliot; two sisters; Geneva Clay and Eula T Drinkard.
He leaves to cherish his memory two children Shereitha (Ronnie) Wellington, of Cedartown, GA, Raymond Leeander (Summer) Clay, of Toney, AL;11 grandchildren including a special granddaughter, Jermilya Clay; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Doris (John Will) Hutchins, Stevenson, AL; four brothers, Hollis H (Clara) Clay, Jr., of Scottsboro, AL, Thomas (Geraldine) Clay, Walter L (Polly) Clay, both of Huntsville, AL, Paul (Alice Mae) Elliot, of Lawton, OK; one sister-in-law, Starlet Clay of Russellville, AL; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for Mr. Clay will be Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 5-7 pm at Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro. The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www.rudderfuneralhomes.com.
