Richard Aubrey "R.A." Garner, 87 of Stevenson, Alabama passed away October 22, 2009 at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro, Alabama. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He had worked as a maintenance man for South Pittsburg Knitting Mill and Tenn-Ala Fireworks during his lifetime. R.A. attended Rudders Chapel and Victory Baptist Church.
Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his parents: Virgil Eli and Nettie Sue "Susie" Sharp Garner; first wife of 58 years Lois Elizabeth Jones Garner.
He is survived by his second wife of 5 years Lavonia Pruitt Garner of Stevenson; children: Ann Rich of Bridgeport, AL, Joan LeRoy of Hixson, TN, Pat (Jim) Rhymer of Stevenson, Charles "Monk" (Gaye) Garner of Bridgeport; sister Lois (Charles) Akins of Scottsboro, AL; brothers: R.V. (Sue) Garner of Stevenson and Kenneth (June) Garner of Birmingham, AL; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, 5-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral will be 2 PM CDT on Friday, October 23, at the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Larry Bolton and Rev. Joel Shiflett. Interment will be at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood, AL.
