Mr. Roy "Don" Rayburn's Obituary
Roy “Don” Rayburn, age 75, of Stevenson, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Don was a faithful member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Stevenson and loved his church family, who have been so supportive and kind to the family. Don served his community by working with Christmas Charities and the Michael Scott Learning Center and by making knitted toboggans for chemo patients, foster children, and others in need.
Don was a 1965 graduate of Banks High School in Birmingham, Alabama, and a 1969 graduate of Jacksonville State University with a degree in Business and Economics. After graduating from JSU, Don worked in the Textile Industry.
Don Joined the Alabama National Guard in 1969. He received his Special Forces training at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and his Airborne training at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Growing up, Don was a member of East Lake Methodist Church and Boy Scout Troop 214. He earned his Eagle Scout in 1962 and served several summers as a counselor at Camp Arrowhead, located near Clanton, Alabama.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Autie Rayburn of Birmingham, Alabama, his son Roy Don Rayburn II of Stevenson, Alabama, and his brother Cecil Eugene Rayburn of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marian Rayburn; precious daughter Francis, and son-in-law Bob Spencer, who have walked every step of this final journey with him. He is also survived by grandchildren Corinne Middlebrooks (Brint Graham), Madison Spencer, Robert (Adrianna) Spencer, and Megan (Trent) Collett; great-grandchildren Easton and Adleigh Spencer, Gasper, Jones and Callie Collett; Dearest sister-in-law Marty Rayburn, who has helped with Don’s care; Brothers-in-law David (Diane) Pierce, and John (Yvonne) Pierce, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Don loved and was loved by the special family of Eugene, Kim, Roy, and Kevin Guess, Kailee (Chris) Moore, Christie, Steve and Joanie Moore. Don will be missed greatly by his family and friends, especially the “Football Friends” that met each Saturday during football season.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of Alabama, our wonderful nurse, Mackenzie Peacock, and the dedicated CNA’s for all of their support and kindness.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7th, 2022 at Rudder Funeral Home of Stevenson, Alabama beginning at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel at Rudder Funeral Home of Stevenson, with Bro. Gary Tubb and Bro. Earl Goodwin officiating, beginning at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 8th, 2022. Interment will follow at Rocky Springs Cemetery.
