Ruth Mae Arnold Grider Allen, 95 of Stevenson, AL died October 5, 2008 at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro, AL. She retired at age 62 from North Jackson Hospital as an LPN where she was one of the first to work in the hospital when it opened. She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Stevenson.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Bessie Thomas Arnold; first husband Forrest Macklin Grider; second husband Carl Woodrow "Shug" Allen; granddaughter Rose Anne Mackey; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Lena (Henry) Kirk and Elizabeth (Mason) Crowell; son-in-law Jimmy Caperton.
She is survived by two daughters: Barbara Grider Caperton of Stevenson, AL, Anna Allen (Carl) Mackey of Kennesaw, GA; daughter-in-law Frieda Smith Grider of Union, SC; six grandchildren: Betsy Caperton (Bryan) Jeffery of Stevenson, Karen Mackey (Robbie) Ashmore of Scottsboro, AL, Alan (Beverly) Mackey of Summerville, SC, Laura Grider of Woodstock, GA, Elizabeth Grider (Bill) Palian of Charlotte, NC, Jimmy (Shanie) Grider of Madison, AL; nine great-grandchildren: Chris Hoback, Bonnie Hoback, Lana Mackey, Rachel Mackey, Alex Mackey, Emma Grider, Anna Grider, Samantha Palian, Charlie Palian and other relatives.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The graveside service will be 11 AM CDT at Stevenson City Cemetery officiated by Rev. Gary Tubb.
