Ruth Fennell Harris' Obituary
Ruth Fennell Harris, 93 of South Pittsburg, TN died December 31, 2017 at her home. Mother Edna Ruth Fennell Harris was born March 9, 1924 to the late Walter and Gertrude Coffee Fennell. She was a native of Hollywood, AL until she moved to South Pittsburg, TN in 1940.
Mother Harris (Aunt Ruth) accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age. She attended Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church for a short period of time until she moved her membership back to Shiloh Baptist Church in Hollywood. She was active on the Mother Board and a faithful member until her health would not allow. She continued to worship the Lord until she took her last breath.
Mother Harris retired from Pittsburg Knitting Mill in South Pittsburg, TN and spent the remainder of her life with her church members, family and friends.
Mother Harris was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 73 years, Deacon Levert Harris; sons: Benny Harris and Howard Harris; parents: Walter and Gertrude Coffee Fennell; sisters: Betty Sue Fennell, Mable Cotton, Ester Cothron, Mary Ellen Tucker, Christine Evans and Shirley McCamey; brothers: Billy Fennell and George Fennell; sons-in-law: Charles Williams, Sr. and Tommy Fuget.
Leaving to mourn her passing are her daughters: Peggy Harris Williams, Patricia Harris Merriweather of Chattanooga, TN, Lavon Harris of South Pittsburg, TN and Delilah "Dee" Harris-Scott of Chattanooga, TN; sister, Bernice Moore of Hollywood, AL,; sister-in-law Flora Harris of Cleveland, OH, and a dear friend and sister in Christ Toretha Scott of Newburn, AL; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be 1 PM, Saturday, January 6, and the funeral service will follow at 2 PM at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL officiated by Pastor Mansel Brown. Interment will be in Old Baptist Cemetery in Hollywood, AL. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
