"Smokey" Carl Richard Abbott, 71 a life-long resident of Bridgeport, AL, died March 12, 2012 at his home after a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family. "Smokey" was the son of the late Joseph and Marie Johnson Abbott born January 24, 1941 in Bridgeport, AL. Carl was a Bridgeport High School Graduate Class of 1960. He was a retired carpenter with TVA having worked at Nickajack, Widows Creek and Bellefonte plants. Smokey was a devoted member of Abbott Chapel, loved his family and friends, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Besides his parents, Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his siblings: Lorene Steele, JoAlma Paris, Willie Mae Howard, Dorothy Stewart, Ralph Abbott and Nathaniel Abbott.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Carolyn Frances White Abbott; children Richard S. (Donna) Abbott, Denise (Barry) Phillips; grandchildren: Meghann Phillips, Amanda Phillips, Sidney Abbott; siblings: Don (Shirley) Abbott, Berneda Hill, Nora Williams, June Gibson, Alberta (Joe) Reeves; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 5-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 14, at 2 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Bro. Brian Guess. Pallbearers will be David Abbott, Kevin Abbott, Kerry Abbott, Larry White, Randy White, Howard Blevins, Wayne Crabtree and Richard Jones. Interment will be at Abbott Chapel Cemetery.
